topic kdl40v3000 screen brightness in Other TVs

Hi,
Our beloved kdl40 v 3000 has just developed a screen brightness issue. The tv powers up as normal but within 30 seconds it goes brighter almost like a charging effect or a capacitor charging. If I leave the TV off for a longer period it will stay normal for up to a minute before the screen drifts bright er and brighter. It is bad timing for us so close to Christmas so a repair is our only option. Could this be the main board.
Thanks in advance and happy Christmas to all.
Pat
