Hi Olivierbicep and welcome to Club Vaio.

This is a known problem with some GRX Vaios. The second memory slot can have a bad solder joint to the main board and this causes the problem.

To see if this is in fact your problem, try removing the memory module from the second slot and then try to boot.

If your Vaio works with just memory in the No 1 slot, come back here as I'm sure someone may know a repairer who is prepared to fix it.

EDIT: LOOK HERE to see how to remove the memory module.

Thanks Blencogo,

I had trouble replying you yesterday.
I tried what you said but it didn't work. I even tried with no memory connected but still no joy. I managed to get through to Vaio technical support and after a few failed tests they suggested a replacement motherboard. Have you got any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi Olivierbicep,

I have a feeling that Blencogo is probably correct with his diagnosis, but you need to persist further with swapping memory modules.

Trying to boot with no memory installed will not work. Remove all modules (chips) and then try a single module in each slot (in all possible permutations).

You could also try applying slight pressure against the module and its slot (a small piece of thin card placed between the module and compartment door will achieve this).

If you can then boot I suggest you contact Bruce Benson for a memory slot repair.
