Problem with External Microphone

I have a VGN-FE31z , when i connect a external microphone
does not record any sound, but the test hardware works correctly.

In control panel appear the "Sigmatel Audio" as audio device

Hi Newbie74 and welcome to club vaio
Go to control panel and click to add hardware maybe your pc didnt detect the microphone.why you dont using the build in microphone?is very good.anyway try this or go to control panel/sound and audio devices and then audio/sound recording and select your microphone.

If that doesn't help -

Have you checked that the microphone is not muted? It often is by default.

Double-click the audio icon in the task bar - OR

Control Panel -> Sound Reality Audio -> Levels

Check the microphone volume.

i attach two images about my problem. The microphone is connected , i can use, the test work, but the record it's imposible.
