NOTEBOOK SCREEN FLICKERS THEN GOES BLANK

Hi,

I have a viao pcg-grt796hp which has been running with no problems for almost 4 years now. It's a large desktop replacement type laptop with 16.1" tft screen.

The problem I have is that when I try to use it, it switches on and loads windows ok but then after a few seconds, the screen starts to flicker and then goes blank. When I look at the screen closely I can see faintly that that there's something on the screen. If I connect an external monitor the external monitor is working fine and I can see everything. One of the external monitors stopped working after connecting it to the laptop for a few days.

Does anybody know how I can fix this problem.

So far I've updated the display drivers and the BIOS, but no change.

I read somewhere about something called an inverter unit and that it may have something to do with.

Hi netwise and welcome to Club Vaio.

It certainly sounds like the Inverter (expensive), the actual cathode tubes or the wiring.

I presume you are out of the warranty period. I would look for a qualified local repairer to take a look.
