FE31Z - was struggling with sound also - kids were preferring to watch DVDs on their 1/3 of the price Compaqs. Used the Sonic Stage fix and that's improved it, but agree with some other comments- a top end Media solution shouldn't have to revert to community support to resolve - other than that first Sony and pretty impressed - volume thing does not make me Sony for life though - yet !

I have the FE31H and have the tinny sound problem - tried the previous work-arounds suggested but with little improvement - I did get a volume increase and bit of bass with the VLC player but I expected good quality listening especially with Media Centre OS - there are budget laptops out there with better sound . So Sony what is the answer - to return for refund? Replacing would not be a solution. David Beckham paraded the Viao - hmmmmmm doesn't he have a very tinny voice?
