Alps pointing device mirrored

I'm not sure when this started. On the SZ6 after disconnecting an external monitor or after waking up sometimes the touchpad is mirrored. What I mean is that if i drag my finger down the cursor goes up, drag to the left and it goes to the right. I'm getting used to it so sometimes its difficult to work even when it behaves correctly. When there problem is there the scrolling are is of course moved to the right of the pad. I have also noticed that the problem is a little less frequent when I'm running the intel graphics.

Anyone heard of this? At first I was sure it was a software problem, but I'm not so sure any more, especially after googling a lot and not finding anything about this problem. After forcibly killing the four different alps-related processes, the scrolling does not work anymore (as expected) but the pad is still reversed. This suggests to me a hardware or a windows problem. I'm not 100% but I think I have the problem even after only running Thunderbird and nothing else. I have lots of stuff on this machine and enough of it comes with services and start-up so that might not be very helpful.

Hi DanyM,

To avoid any software issue I recommend (maybe the best solution) to full recovery the unit on its default settings.

Then try your touchpad again and if you still notice the "mirror" effect, it's certainly a hardware issue.

Unfortunately - that is not an option for me 😞 All in all it would be much cheaper to get my hands on another top-case and switch them. Clean installing everything simply takes too long.

Hi! My problem is similar to your problem. My mouse works wrongly. Although I did not click any place, automatically my mouse double click continuously. When I try to click another place in order to stop the double clicking, it deletes my folders or open a new windows, etc. I searched the net in order to find a solution, but I could not find any. Not only my usb mouse, but also my mousepad do the same thing.

I bought this computer a month ago. My computer is Vaio VGN-FZ21M and O.S. is Vista(32-bit). My usb mouse is Intellipoint wheel optical mouse(It's original also). How can I solve this problem?

Please help me...

Dear gldnlgn,

If buttons are double clicking all the time:

1) uninstall alpspoint from device manager, unit will restart and reinstall driver.
2) IF issue persists then FULL RECOVERY to avoid any redundant corrupted driver. Full recovery lets computer in its default settings from factory.
3) AND IF still issue continues, contact technical support of VAIO Link to apply in warranty, in that case it IS hardware issue.

I have the same problem that I associate with when ever I go on battery power and then sleep then wake up in mirror. I then go sleep / wakeup a few times then it comes back. I have tried a number of things such as re-install driver, reset options, etc.... I have tried Vaio support but their only line is : recovery... - maybe you should do the same - if they see more than one they may pay attention and take action other than ask for a full recovery !!!! I, like you do not contemplate a re-install of my stuff ... mucxh to long and tedious with Vista!
