CPU usage always 100%

Hello, i am having a problem with my CPU usage. When my laptop is idol the cpu usage is at 2-4% which is normal. As soon as i swith my WLAN button to on at the front of my laptop the cpu usage jumps to 100%. The whole system then just drags along. I am still able to connect to the internet etc it is just incredibly slow.

When i look at the task manager to see what programs are using the cpu the main one is the system idol process which flicks wildly from 50-98%. (although the cpu usage never drops below 90%). The next few processes flick around so quickly i can't read what they are.

I have ran several anti virus and spyware programs but nothing is detected.

Would greatly appreciate any sugestions as to what could be causing this.

Thanks
