Hi Thalamus,
Thanks for the welcome and thread link, pity there's no solution other than get rid of the laptop.

Looks like Sony have got it wrong on some models, the VGN-FZ21Z being one of them.
Based on members experience on the subject, I'm not going to waste my time with Sony Support.

I can't find anything which tells me which models don't have this problem but "sunking101" has found one so I'll dump mine on ebay as well and find out which model he/she found to be Ok.

It makes sense that the info on which models hold power and which don't is unavailable, like buying a car and finding out the fuel evaporates while parked! Would be hard to sell those models!

Thanks

Vaio VGN-FZ21Z
This laptop had liquid spilt over the keyboard and has been back to Sony TWICE for repair. (had to go back second time because incorrect components were installed during the repair !)

If I shut down the laptop with the battery charged to 100% and leave it switched OFF (NOT hibernate or Sleep) for 6-7 days, when I switch it on, the battery has drained to about 50%. Leave it off for two weeks and it won't even power up.
Since the liquid spill happened ony a few days after I bought the Vaio, I don't know if this is normal or not.
If it is not normal, then the question becomes one of has the liquid spillage damaged the battery and if so, why didn't the repair team find out? (after all, the cost of the repair was almost half the price of the laptop New)

so my question is: Is it normal in a new laptop for the battery to drain completely in two weeks even though the laptop is switched OFF? (NOT Hibernated or Sleep mode)

Thanks
