hello

i have a really simple question.
it is possible install a original XP sp2 on vaio without recovery CD, my laptop is a VGN-AR21B.

if the answers is NO.

I really want to know why. is there a lock create by sony.

Hi vgn-ar21b and welcome to Club Vaio.

If you have a XP Installation disc and own the license key, you can install it on the AR21B.

You will need the SATA Driver or the installation disc will not recognise the Hard Disc during installation. This is nothing to do with Sony - it is the same with all PCs with a SATA hard disc.

You will need to download all the Original Drivers and Original Utilities from here: -

and any updates from here: -

http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&m=2421

You will lose all the preinstalled software apart from XP and if you need any of these programs, have a look at this thread: -
