CANNOT BURN CD's ON VAIO VGN-FE31M

Hi, i have a VAIO VGN-FE31M. My issue is that i cannot burn CD's. i dont know if this applys to DVD's as i hav'nt tried. I used to be able to burn with no problems at all. But when i burn in windows media player, i a presented with an error message, and the burn fails to complete. Some tracks are on the disc, but the disc is unplayable and tracks are missing. I have restarted my laptop several times in the past using the recovery utility, but these restarts have not been for issues with my vaio, jsut because i felt it needed a clean sweep. I am jsut wondering if these restarts could have anything to do with it. or you could resolve it for me with some other resolution. I hope i have given you enough info. the reason for me assuming that my last restart created the problem is because i only noticed it occuring after i had done the restart, but it may very well be something else causing it.

I am running Windows XP Media Centre Edition 2005, Media Player 11

Hi Griff91,

Roxio DigitalMedia SE 7 should be pre-installed on your vaio, have you tried burning a CD using Roxio DigitalMedia SE 7.?

hi, i have roxio digital media home, if that makes any sense to you. and if this is the software you are talking about. then no i havnt tried with that. however another problem i am having is getting my data back from dual-layer dvd's that i burned prior to restarting my computer. when i try and take all the data off. i jsut get an error. i tried the roxio software and otehr means. but it just wont take the data off without giving an error. I can get most of the data off, but certain things i cannot. i would be grateful if you could also help me with this.

Hi Griff91,

can you try burning a CD using Roxio DigitalMedia please..

Right Click on the Computer desktop icon and select Properties..

In the new System window Click on Device Manager..

Click Continue on the Use Account Window..

Expand CD/DVD drives

Do you have a warning icon, if so what is listed in the Device Status box.?

Hi,

i checked in device manager and the CD/DVD drive is not reporting any errors.

I also went onto roxio, but i did not have an empty disc available, so i used an RW disc. so i used roxio to try and erase the disc and in the process roxio gave me the following error "There was a problem erasing the disc. Your media may be scratched or damaged. If the problem persists, try another disc"

The problem cannot be the disc as the music contained on the RW disc was written by a CD recorder jsut the other day.

Should i try updating the drivers? with vaio update?
