Hey!
I have a problem:
If I connect my VP to the PC, the display shows me a connetcion to the PC. I can find it in my desktop as a mass storage device, too! But if I start my SonicStage to transfer some music, it says the device is not connectet. Can anyone help?

Hallo!

well i dont know what exactly is going wrong with your vp,it could be a case of cables or software...

check all the connections and then see if the pc recognizes the device at all in the "My computer" area...

to upgrade the firmware,go to the vaio-link.com and download the firmware update from the vaio pocket section and then follow the instructions listed.

but you have to be able to see the vp in the my computer screen to do that!

If there's only one firmware upgrade till ow, then downgrading is impossible, unless you ask Sony do that for you and send your VP for them! (I don't think a SANE person would do that!)
I believe formatting VP won't delete the firmware files or downgrade them, as upgrading prosess is with rewriting the old firmware and I don't think VP keep a backup of the old firmware!
That's why they ask you to connect the power to VP and keep it on during the firmware upgrade process, cause if for some reason the process fails, then it's like installing half a windows, which isn't useful at all! And you can run your PC with a bootable Floppy Disk or CD, but for VP, well, I suppose there's no CD-Rom drive yet

I think you're right Diablo, I think the file you put on the VP to upgrade is written into the ROM chip rather than being installed on the hard drive. It's the same with my laptop when upgrading the BIOS firmware. The problem is a bit deeper than a half installed copy of Windows though, as if a ROM flash fails then the device can't turn on, as the ROM is wiped before the new file is written to it, and the processes needed for upgrading the ROM are held in volatile memory (i.e. as soon as the memory loses power it's wiped). You can't just stick another floppy into a PC with a damaged BIOS file though, as the different bits don't know how to communicate, that's why I mean it's a bit deeper! I'm not 100% certain that this is what happens but it's certainly what I'd put my money on.
