Hi Everyone

I work for a computer reatailer and one of the brands that we sell is Sony.

Recently we have been running the Futuremark 3D Mark 01 and PC Mark 04 on all the computers that we sell, we are doing this so that we can advise thoes hardcore customers. I shall post the results of the VAIO's tomorrow when i get back from work.

So I was thinking that i would post my results for you all to see.

My System is;

Not very impressive results but my laptop is not very powerfull.

The basic versions of these programs are free.

Well hopefully we can get a lot of results from all you VAIO users.

I will also post the results of the desktops.

Remember that the tests were only run once and no overclocking was done on the laptops or desktops.

Interesting numbers Graham, but what exactly do these numbers measure?

The 3D Mark 01 mainly tests the computers 3D graphics card.

The computers with a higer score are more suited to the modern games. For example a computer that scores below 1000 will have a hard time running any game that involves a bit of 3D processing such as Half-Life etc.. Where as a computer that scores at 5000 and above should have no problem with most 3D games.

The PC Mark 04 test all aspects of the computer from CPU to HD. It is a more general test on the computer as a whole.

Many computing publications use these benchmarks to rate the performance of new computers and new hardware.

These benchmarks are a gide to help buyers, but also there is a whole compuinty of computer users that try to push there computers by overclocking them. A way of testing a overclocked computer is using these benchmarks and seeing how they score for example http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20031230/index.html check this out. Thoes nuts a Toms hardware pushing a P4 to 5 Ghz

Cheers Graham. I've surfed TomsHardware in the past and seen the 5GHz results - I don't think I'd be able to cool my processor to that extent

There are some cool cooling gizmos out there.

I've seen external water cooling towers for PCs and the like.

Also a RRP £750 totally noiseless PC case (the only noise would eminate from your HDD)

You'd have to be pretty obsessed with noise to fork out for that.

Yep, just for the case.

I gotta admit, its one heck of a case though.
The CPU and grpahics chip are passiveley cooled by liquid. As can be done to the HDD.
And the PSU doesn't even have a fan.

I have seen a fridge freezer component for desktop CPUs which freezes it to -30 degrees C.
