Hi guys, I purchased a FS195XP about 3 weeks ago, yes I had the buzzing screen problem too:smileysad: So, after about 2 weeks of trying to get used to that buzzing noise, I decided to call Sony and ask them about this widespread problem. I spoke to a polite guy about the problem and was asked to update the bios and graphics driver, which I had already done a few days before. So, he went away for a few secs, came back & said they would pick it up the next day, and the next morning DHL picked it up, great I thought, I did not need to hassle them or nothing! Wonderful:smileycool:

Anyway, today (5 days after they picked it up) I recieved it back, much to the amazement of the DHL man, who said they must be getting better at this:smileylaugh: Great!!! I was told 10-15 days, so I was obviously very pleased to get it back so soon! Anyway, I unpacked it & checked there were no marks etc etc... All looked as it should. According to the paper work in the box & on their site, they have replaced the LCD. There was a slight mark on the bezel when I bought it, that was now gone, and also 2 dead pixels which were gone aswell. Excellent!!! I now have a screen with no dead pixels:smileycool: Everything was going so well then... you guessed it... I try turning down the brightness from full & the F**king buzzing is still there... BO**OCKS!!! I don't believe it!!!:smileycry: Exactly the same buzzing problem!

So, although I now have no dead pixels, I still have that buzzing noise!:smileysad: It seems Sony have no idea how to fix this problem or what's causing it either! I give up trying to solve this buzzing problem, I will try to get used to it & if I can't I will just sell the thing! I really can't be bothered calling Sony again and messing around anymore, I doubt it will get me anywhere either. I am really disappointed with Sony's notebooks. Two years ago I had to get a refund on a GRT815M because the thing kept freezing, a while after that I thought I would try a Sony again and bought a K series, again sent it back because it felt like it was going to fall apart. Did I learn my lesson? NO! A few weeks back I bought a S3HP, yep you guessed it, it went back and I got a refund. The fan noise on this thing is as loud as my desktop, and this is LOUD! Not to mention it getting too hot to have on my lap, I thought that's what they are for? Hence the word "laptop", silly me:smileyconfused: And then 3 weeks back I fell for the good looks of Sony's FS series, and you already know the story with this one!

Is it just me, or are Sony no good at making notebooks? Or maybe I am just not meant to have one? It's weird, I have many sony products that are great, no problem. Yet, I be damned if I can find a Sony notebook that works or does not have problems! I thought Sony were a quality brand, that does not seem to apply to there notebooks as far as I can see though. I know other brands have problems aswell but, I just can't believe my luck with Sony notebooks, I can't seem to win!

Anyway, I am seriously thinking of sticking with desktops in the future, I have some crap brand desktop that works flawlessly, no problems at all after over 3 years of use. I guess the saying "you get what you paid for" don't always apply!

Cheers!

well i the way i see it, Sony design a laptop then forget to test it so they design it and put it in the market without if testing it. If they use there brains all they need to do is test it properly like other companys sort out all the problems then put it in the market so we dont have to report. and the stupid thing is are they losing more money by not fixing the problem.

Oh God, I'm not a specialist but I know that the problem is not the screen. It's the cheap prt of your laptop which reduce the brightness of the back lights or the back lights itself.

The screen has nothing to do with this. It's a TFT display and not a OLED display which needs no back lights. Say this Sony. They must replace this part with an part which has a higher quality. And not the screen!
:smileyd_oh: :smileyd_oh: :smileyd_oh:

Interesting thread this one, I'm glad to finally read interesting discussions which didn't include the word DVD!

I have 2 VAIOs and they've been working great, OK, a few quirks but nothing major, thank goodness! Feel a bit let down by the RA104 though, as it's not as silent as Sony made out it to be, and it's just an expensive machine really.... OK so it has room link, it's not exclusive to Sony, after all that hype!

Anyway back to the problem, I have to agree with Seb, it's not just the screen - it's the inverter board and the actuall backlight controller, I can't see why Sony's missed this out! I have NO technical training academically and I can work this out, it amazes me. I'd laugh if I was right too!

Sony's laptops have gone down the banks in the pas 5 years, the pre 2000 laptops were great, they were not just stylish, but were built to last. I so wanted one when a friend of mine got his FX series laptop, it was so cool. He still has it today, it's 6 years old!

The GRX was a nice machine, but since then Sony have really failed to get me excited, OK, the A series excited me a bit, but the build looked bad when I saw it in Birmingham. (You can ask Faith and Scuba, my face said it all!)

Anyway, I think it's time Sony went back to the classics, good build, excellent hardware and not too much software.

Well, considering I have tried 4 Sony notebooks in the last 18 months & they've all had something wrong with them, I won't be making the same mistake again. I can live with not having cutting edge graphics cards etc but, for the price you expect the notebooks to be of high quality and reliable surely? It would appear that apart from good looks, Sony's notebooks don't offer much else. I have finally learnt my lesson!

Yes, the buzzing is coming from near the back end of the unit, not directly from the screen. I mean, when they changed the LCD surely the next thing your gonna do is see if the buzzing is still there when not on full brightness? Did they even bother to test it out after, obviously not!

I think Sony should stick to what they are good at, anything other than notebooks it seems!

Now, I can't even use the thing because all my stuff is not on there, and I aint wasting my time reinstalling everything until I know what is happening. I called them back straight after, and was told they would pass my case over to the engineers & they would contact me, pigs will fly! I am gonna give them a call & demand they fix it, if they give me more crap, then I am flogging it. I doubt I'll be buying anything else from Sony again.

There is a part in your laptop which reduce the brightness (I think you can compare this with a electrical dimmer, or similar)

This thing produce the noise. Or it comes from the backlights itself.

Because maybe The X-Black II technology is the problem.

Ok, I have just called Sony, you aint going to believe it!!! I was told that they have been informed that there will be a Bios fix for this in 2 weeks. So, I said that it's the invertor or the lamps that's causing the problem, not software!!!:smileycry: Someone in the US had the invertor replaced that solved the problem, but he said they've been told there's no need for these notebooks to be picked up and there will be a fix for the problem. He also said if this don't solve the problem, they will pick it up. Why do I get the feeling that this is just more excuses! Bios fix my arse.

I give up!!!:smileycry:

Well, I aint paying Sony for nothing, infact Sony should pay me for running up my phone bill and wasting my time. They got me running around in circles!

Gish_X, I know how you feel. I am very close to just selling the thing & cutting my losses. I can't believe they don't know what's causing this problem, the amount of people that have called them about it, what have they been doing for the last month. Now they expect me to sit around waiting some more.

By the time Sony wake up I will probably have gotten rid of mine. :smileyrolling_eyes:
