Manual focus on HDR-XR160E

I am trying to record an amateur pantomime where the lighting effects, etc, cause the camera to blur for a few micro-seconds whilst it achieves focusing. I want to change from automatic focus to manual, but all the user guide shows is how to select manual focus, but NOT how to actually make adjustments to achieve the correct image focus. Can anyone please help this layman how to do this? Thank you.

There is no ring to act on, but you have to use the On-Screen Buttons that represent a "Little man<-" and a "->Mountain".
