I am an amateur and I just bought the AX53. The one thing that I find irritating is that when you zoom in to a distant object the balanced optical mechanism caused the image to bounce all over the place. it might be a "steady shot" when you are filming whilst walking along, but not at the end of a zoom-in. Is there a facility on the camera to fix the lens in position for zoom-in shots

Hi Peadarotti,

So far as I can see there is no facility to 'fix' the lens for zoom in shots. There is a facility however to switch off the SteadyShot function which I think will reduce or stop the lens from hunting altogether ?

The following is from the owners manual:

[112] How to Use Menu operations Camera/Mic

SteadyShot (Movie)

This product has a balanced optical SteadyShot function that allows you to reduce the

camera-shake when shooting with zooming, as well as when shooting with a wide-angle

shot .

1. - [Camera/Mic] - [ Camera Settings] - [ SteadyShot] - desired setting.

Descriptions of menu items

Intelligent Active:

Records a movie using the most effective SteadyShot function on this product.

This function is not available when [ File Format] is set to [ XAVC S 4K].

Active:

Records a movie using a more effective SteadyShot function.

Standard:

Reduces camera shake using the SteadyShot function in wide-angle shooting.

Off ( 😞

Does not use the SteadyShot function.

You could try this in an instant and see if your subject matter remains steady.

Thanks Jonnie, that works. The lens is static when "off" is selected. That solves that prob.

I would leave it "on" for normal filming and panning around. But if I want to pan and stop suddenly on an object for visual effect I would have to set it to OFF before I'd do that pan because when you suddenly stop the lens bounces all over the place again. On balance I can see myself leaving it off more often than on.
