Hi sumpleby and welcome to the community

When you say 'for working with' do you mean the best photo editing software?

If so there are plenty of products out there such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw, Corel Aftershot Pro 2 etc.

Have a look Here for Adobe details and Here for the Corel.

Maybe some photography buffs will be able to suggest / recommend others, but a 'Google' of the best software

will give you some reviews

I'm a great fan of Adobe Lightroom. This is the Camera Raw part of Photoshop as a standalone RAW processor. It's relatively inexpensive for the goods it delivers.

If you want a free RAW converter there are several options:

-RawTherapee is very good

-Sony has it's own Sony image data converter (IDC), it's relatively slow, it's good but not great.

-There is a commercial agreement between Sony and the professional RAW developer Phase One which have a RAW converter called capture one express for Sony: http://www.phaseone.com/Imaging-Software/Capture-One-for-Sony.aspx

If you are not willing to spend money on a RAW converter, capture one is your best option!
