Registering pre-owned a77 and lens.

Question

I have just bought an a77 with vari-sonnar lens which were both pre-owned. The previous owner tells me I can register myself as the current owner as both items are still under guarantee. First of all, is that correct and secondly, how do I do it please?

Hi, welcome to the Sony Forums

Not being a lawyer, I'm unable to state this with any authority, but I believe any UK-issued warranty is valid for the term of the guarantee. Some Sony regions explicitly state this and advise new owners to contact the warranty department with product details – I'd expect this would specifically include details of the original receipt.

The European warranty page doesn't mention it, but there is at least a contact address: http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/warranty/general

Registration may be a different matter. I'm not entirely sure if you can re-register a product but if you call the nice people at Sony customer services, I'm sure they'll be able to advise you: http://sonycic.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/231/~/contact-for-end-users-for-help,-to-buy-sony-products-and-for-post-sale-support

In any event, non-registration shouldn't affect your statutory rights under the warranty.
