topic Error code 0x56 Alpha 100 - help! in Alpha & NEX interchangeable lens cameras

Had the dreaded "Camera Error 0x56" the other day which hasn't been resolved by removing memory card, battery or changing lens. Went into a local camera shop and they found out it's a problem with the aperture bit that moves on the camera body. Feels 'strange' according to the assistant. He also said that it has a 5 year EU manufacturers warranty (I bought it in December 07) but I cannot find anything online! I am thinking I'm going to have to send it in to Sony but if there's a possibility I can take advantage of this warranty it would save me a large amount of money. Apparently, this error has occurred in quite a few a100's so it's a manufacturing fault, does this make any difference? Help!

Thanks,

G
