Have you watched any movie preview on Google Play? Try John Wick Chapter 3. The preview looks gorgeous on full screen. I don't think there will be a problem to purchase movies on Google play. Maybe just need to wait for the pre-order released movies.

Try to run a full Xperia test if you think there is something wrong with you screen that gives you an error on that preview.
