People can't hear me over phone call background noise

Hi,

I'm having some problems with my Sony Xperia 1 III. Whenever I video call someone, the music or sound (aka background noise) from their end, feeds back through into the microphone and they literally can't hear anything i'm saying unless they're in a pitch quiet room. Microphones are usually close to speakers on phones so i've not had this problem this bad before. I basically can't have a conversation with someone if they're outside of the house as they can't hear me at all.

It's almost like there's something in the settings which is trying to eliminate background noise but it's eliminating me. They tell me they can see me talking but can't hear me at all?

The second issue is, whenever someone else is talking, it mutes me which makes it difficult for conversation because no conversation is usually one way followed by a pause and then someone else speaking, usually people interject but at the moment they'll miss the first part of what i'm saying, see me trying to speak then have to say what? and ask me to repeat myself. This seems like a software issue as opposed to a hardware issue but i'm not well versed on these things. Calling is very problematic at the moment! Any help would be much appreciated.

Experiment a little with the position of your device and that of your conversation party.

Start with each device handheld, place it somewhere with an open background, with a reflecting background and see what happens.

Does that happen with video calls only or does it happen with normal calls as well?

If only video calls, what app are you using for the video calls?

It happens with voice calls as well, I have to wait until they stop talking as it mutes me when sound is coming out the speaker. On video calls I mostly use WhatsApp!

Try the steps in this link The sound during calls is bad

And check if the same issue will remain after the steps or not
