XZ1 Fingerprint gestures API missing? Half baked Android Oreo?

Hello,

After Xperia showed off to sell the first Smartphone delivered with Oreo I am a bit dissapointed that one of the major new features of Oreo "Fingerprint gestures" does not seem to be working or even included in the Rom of my Xperia XZ1 (Europe with FIngerprint). Is that correct?

No Fingerprint gesture App is working.

Please fix this.

Meanwhile I am also waiting for an Z5 Oreo Update...

@androlool fingerprint gestures need to be supported by hardware. also I'm pretty sure the location of the XZ1's fingerprint scanner would cause the gestures bring triggered accidentally all the time.

Im with you with the Hardware support but then it would be a shame nad also any official Statement is required for believing this.

I dont think that the position is more prone for accidental gesture recognition compared to other Fingerprint Scanner Positions.

@androlool there are some apps that imitate fingerprint gestures. you know how sometimes a phone says "fingerprint removed too fast" when you don't touch the scanner long enough? the apps leverage it to perform the "gesture". I've been using it for couple hours before I got frustrated with notification panel dropping all the time because I would rest my finger on the power button out of habit, or graze it with my palm when typing a message.

Yes but they Only use taps. Android 8 has swipes.

I can confirm. I tried the same and it's awefull. Even with swipes. I get annoyed by the constant vibration aswell everything the sensor tries to detect something. I'm glad Sony didn't implement this. A scanner on the back might work though. You'd still have to be aware of your positioning, but in a less cumbersome manner.

Are you getting payed to say that xd fingerprint gestures are great. Swipe down for notification menu, up for custom navbar etc. The sensitivity could also be changed, vibration on/of also possible. But being glad that some feature is missing seams strange to me. You could disable it if you don't like it.

At present there is no plan to introduce fingerprint gestures for Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ1 Compact and Xperia XZ Premium (December, 2017).

I can see how this can be a very useful feature to have, so I will make sure to forward this internally as user feedback!

That would be nice. My wife’s S8+ has fingerprint gestures and are quite useful.

Is better to have a function and disable it if unnecessary than not having at all.

The more options/settings available, the better it is (if you can disable them so you aren't forced to use them unless you want to).

Android 8.1 is about to come. I hope Fingerprint Gestures are finally there (still have the phone eventough it is still not possible to unlock the bootloader and restore the Drm keys.
