Hazel Update, pls help?

Hi,

I have recently upgraded form a 2GB micro SD card to a 8GB SDHC card for my Sony Ericsson Hazel (J20i). Although the phone reads the data, it is not able to write anything on it. Even save photos from camera. Pls help?

Also I have updated my phone software (first from on the Air and then using a PC).

My pre-installed indian languages in the phone is completely gone and my phone is not able to track GPS. Kindly let me know if sony ericsson will be coming up with another update anytime soon?

Are you saying that all this is caused by the new memory card? Are you sure this memory card is suitable for your phone? If it is, you can format it and see if that enables data to be written on it? Also, apart from the update service, you can also try the phone repair option via PC suite and/or a master reset.

Hi,

I believe the phone supports up to 16GB. And I guess all SD cards greater than 2 GB are SDHC cards with class 1, 2 or 4. I've brought a class 2, 8GB SDHC card.

I have also tried reformatting the card; however the phone is not able to write anything on it, but my computer can easily write files on it.

Also, I tried using the repair option as well as master reset. However the problem remains and also the phone's software update doesn't rollback. In fact, because of the master reset, I had lost the Demo Tour and inbuilt themes of the phone. Then I had to again run the update service for getting the themes back.

So does the original 2GB memory card still work OK in your phone, i.e., can you write data on it?

In that case it seems that the new memory card is either faulty/corrupt and needs to be replaced, or it's unsuitable for your phone--not in terms of size but perhaps in terms of class (and that's what I meant before).

My memory card works just fine when I attch it to my computer or a card reader, so I don't think that there is a problem with the memory card.

But from where will I know which class of SDHC cards are compatible with Hazel. Every where it is just said that upto 16GB SD cards can be used.

Then I would suggest you try this memory card in another phone or try another memory card in your phone.

Hey friend, have you got the original memory card that came with the phone. Insert it to your phone and see whether it works normally. And if possible borrow a similar capacity memory card from your friends and see whether it works on your phone.

Class just specifies the speed of the memory card. As far as I know every device support memory cards regardless of the class.

upload a picture of the memory card you bought. Lets see which manufacturer it is?

A memory card shouldn't be affecting all those things you just describe, like the phone breakdown.

If inserting the card breaks the phone, then removing the card restore the phone.

Hi.. None of my friends have an 8 GB card for me to test it.

I have put a photo of the card that I have purchased.

Well if you can't test this memory card in another phone, I would suggest you get a refund for that one and buy a Sandisk 8GB micro sd from Amazon, where you can get a new one for under £10. Since the original memory card works fine with your phone and the new one doesn't, despite you having reformatted it, it's pretty clear that there's something wrong with it.

Well I guess I'll have to change the memory card and see.

The other thing is that with the new update, my Indian language support has gone. Is there any way I can get it back??

Now I get Chinese and Indonesian languages which are of no use to me.

That's strange, are you sure you have the right update for your country/region? Try re-running the update service and see if the Indian language comes back, otherwise contact SE support.

Hi Rishi, just wondering if you managed to find a solution to this problem. I had this exact same issue back in August and at the end left the card in the draw because it wasnt writing data correctly (my pictures would be corrupted or songs were missing) I think it may have something to do with the HC class (high capacity) of the memory card. Hopefully you are able to let me know what you have done to get around this problem.
